1987 Canada Seven-Coin Double Dollar Proof Set

The Royal Canadian Mint's proof set for 1987, seven coins in the leatherette book case with red satin lining. The commemorative dollar marks four hundred years since John Davis's third voyage in search of the Northwest Passage and shows his ship against an iceberg in Davis Strait, dual-dated 1587-1987. It is .500 fine silver at 23.33 grams, an actual silver weight of 0.375 troy ounce. It is called a double dollar set because two dollar coins are present: the silver commemorative and the nickel voyageur dated 1987, the last year of Emanuel Hahn's canoe before the aureate loon took over the denomination. Cent, five, ten, twenty-five and fifty cents complete the tray, all struck as proofs with frosted devices against mirrored fields. The Davis Strait dollar has picked up light blue and gold at the rim. The case and its satin are intact.
