1984 United States Olympic Prestige Proof Set 2
$99.95
AvailableSix-coin 1984-S prestige proof set with the Los Angeles Olympic silver dollar, in the original burgundy case.
The United States Mint's prestige set for 1984, pairing the five circulating denominations struck as proofs at San Francisco with the Los Angeles Olympic commemorative silver dollar. The dollar is 90 percent silver at 26.73 grams, an actual silver weight of 0.7734 troy ounce; the other five coins are the ordinary clad and bronze compositions.
Robert Graham's obverse for the dollar shows the Gateway to the Olympic Coliseum with his two headless torsos above the arch, the detail that made the design an argument when it appeared. John Mercanti's eagle is on the reverse. The cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar carry the usual Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington and Kennedy portraits.
The coins sit in the original lens inside the burgundy leatherette case, which turns over so both sides can be read without opening the holder. The specification table is printed on the back of the case. 316,680 prestige sets were sold, a small fraction of the ordinary proof sets struck that year.
This is the second of two examples in stock; the photographs show one of them and both are the same issue in the same packaging.
