1973 Canada Royal Canadian Mounted Police Centennial Silver Dollar
$149
AvailableDeeply toned 1973 Canadian silver dollar for the RCMP centennial, gold through amber across both faces, cased.
A Canadian silver dollar struck for the centennial of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, dual-dated 1873-1973 and issued in the mint's case over red flocking. Composition is .500 fine silver at 23.33 grams, an actual silver weight of 0.375 troy ounce.
What sets this one apart is the toning. Both faces have gone a deep gold shading to amber and rose, heaviest through the fields, with the mounted constable standing out brighter against it. Colour of this depth comes from decades sealed against the flocking and cannot be manufactured convincingly; it is the reason this piece is priced well above the ordinary cased example.
The reverse is Paul Cedarberg's mounted constable in review order, with RCMP and GRC flanking the design. The obverse carries the Machin portrait. The surfaces beneath the colour are undisturbed and the case and insert are sound.
