Republican League of the United States Enameled Lapel Stud
Item no. X1633
$175
AvailableWhite enameled lapel stud divided into three fields reading R, L and U.S. for the Republican League of the United States.
A lapel stud for the Republican League of the United States. The brass face is divided into three white enameled fields carrying the letters R, L and U.S., set within a plain brass border, on the original large button-style stud back.
The League was organized nationally by the late 1880s and did a great deal of the practical work of Republican politics in the period, running clubs, canvassing and turning out the vote. R.L.U.S. insignia appears on convention badges and ribbons of the era.
Convention material from the League is recorded; this enameled stud format is met with much less often. The white enamel is intact and the brass has an even patina, with minor marks and small age-related flaws in the enamel. No Hake or APIC number has been confirmed for it.
