Andrew Jackson Hall of Fame for Great Americans Medal Medallic Art Co .999 Pure Silver

Available

Andrew Jackson portrait medal from the Hall of Fame for Great Americans series at New York University, struck by Medallic Art Company in .999+ pure silver.

Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States, in high relief on a struck silver medal from the Hall of Fame for Great Americans series at New York University. The obverse carries Jackson's bust facing right with a sword, a powder horn and an olive branch behind him, the dates 1767 and 1845, and his facsimile signature across the truncation. The design is the work of the sculptor Michael Lantz. The edge is stamped MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. .999+ PURE SILVER. The Hall of Fame for Great Americans opened on New York University's University Heights campus in 1900, an open colonnade of bronze busts of Americans chosen by a national panel of electors. Between 1963 and 1974 the university, the National Sculpture Society, the Coin and Currency Institute and the Medallic Art Company issued a medal for each honoree, ninety-six in all, modeled by forty-two sculptors drawn almost entirely from the society's membership. The series was struck in bronze and in .999 silver. Offered raw, without certification. Photographed face on and again at an angle, so the edge stamp can be read.
