Albert P. Langtry Signed Massachusetts Commission Portion

$59

Available
The attestation from the foot of a Commonwealth of Massachusetts commission: the engrossed closing lines about the seal of the Commonwealth, then "By His Excellency the Governor" above Albert P. Langtry's signature and the line "Secretary of the Commonwealth". The Governor signed the part of the sheet that was cut away. The date survives on this one. It reads "in the year of our Lord one thous-" and, on the next line, "in the one hundred forty-fourth" year of the Independence of the United States, which is 1920. Albert Perkins Langtry (1860-1939) was Secretary of the Commonwealth from 1915 to 1921. Calvin Coolidge was Governor of Massachusetts in 1920, so the signature cut away above Langtry's was Coolidge's. The Coolidge-signed portion listed separately in this group is from the same printed form and carries the same year. The signature runs about 3 1/2 inches. The cut measures 5 3/8 by 4 1/8 inches. Not submitted to a third-party authentication service. Condition: please see the photographs.
