1904 Theodore Roosevelt Uniface Campaign Medalet White Metal

A Roosevelt campaign medalet from the 1904 canvass, 32 mm, stamped from sheet metal with a blank reverse. ROOSEVELT 1904 runs around the portrait inside a denticulated border. The back is flat and unworked, showing the sheet the piece was pressed from. That is what separates a novelty like this from a struck medalet: one die, one blow, no second face. Pieces at this end of the trade were made by the thousand and thrown away by the thousand, so what survives has little to do with what was produced. This one carries the wear that goes with that, a scattering of marks through the field and a small area of damage beside the date, with the portrait and the legend still perfectly legible.
