1892 Campaign Medal Copper DeWitt Unlisted

An 1892 campaign piece struck in copper and unlisted in DeWitt. Unlisted pieces surface regularly in collections of this depth. The DeWitt and Sullivan catalogs are the standard reference for American campaign medalets, but they are not a census, and the output of the trade outran the books: small local strikings, private orders and one off varieties never made it into a numbered listing. 1892 sent Cleveland back to the White House over Benjamin Harrison, 277 electoral votes to 145, with Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois as his running mate. It was the last presidential canvass fought mainly with struck metal before the celluloid pinback button displaced it. Ex J. Doyle DeWitt.
