1889 George Washington Inauguration Centennial Medal GW-1096 White Metal Holed
$40
Available1889 Washington inaugural centennial medal, GW-1096, Federal Hall reverse, pierced. Ex DeWitt.
Struck for the centennial of Washington's first inauguration and cataloged GW-1096, in white metal. The obverse carries a Washington bust within a border of stars. The reverse is given to Federal Hall, where the oath was administered, ringed by the legend TO COMMEMORATE THE INAUGURAL CENTENNIAL IN NEW YORK and dated APRIL 30 1889, a hundred years to the day after the ceremony.
The piece is pierced twice, once at the top and once at the foot, so it was worn rather than kept in a drawer. NGC records the lower piercing on the holder. Graded UNC Details, with the Ex. J. Doyle Dewitt line. Certificate 6532098-006.
